Acacia (2003) DVD Rip

Korean director Ki-Hyung Park (WHISPERING CORRIDORS) continues his exploration of the supernatural with the thriller ACACIA. After a couple's efforts to conceive continually end in disappointment, they adopt young Jin-seong, whose mother has died. Jin-seong seems drawn to a tree in the couple's backyard, constantly climbing and drawing pictures of it. But when his new mother finally manages to become pregnant, Jin-seong disappears, and a number of strange occurrences--and dead bodies--pile up, all seemingly centered on the mysterious tree. ACACIA has the slow pace and atmospheric build-up common to many Asian horror films.

A Tale Of Two Sisters

Main Cast
Im Su-jeong
Moon Geun Young
Yeom Jeong-ah
Kim Kap-su

Year Released: 2003
Director: Kim Ji-Woon
Duration: 115 Minutes

Synopsis

(Tartan Film): Once upon a time, two little girls were sent to live with their wicked stepmother in the country. Su-Mi and Su-Yeon have had to go away for a little while because they've been sick, but now they're back in the family home, deep in the countryside and at the mercy of their seriously nutty stepmom, Eun-Joo. Director Kim Ji-Won spends the first half of his movie building up the quiet, stately rhythms of family life, but if you listen carefully you can hear something rotten and dead scrabbling away beneath the floorboards.

Lulled into a state of semi-hypnosis, the audience is barely prepared for the series of narrative depth charges director Kim begins to detonate, starting with one of the most surreal and uncomfortable dinner parties ever put onscreen. The screen pulses with radioactive earth tones as floral wallpaper creeps across every available surface and Yeom Jeong-A as Eun-Joo gives the most manic performance by a female lead since Bette Davis in WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? or Faye Dunaway in MOMMIE DEAREST.

As the ghosts begin to crawl out of the closet, and as the house itself seems to shimmer with malevolence we learn that nothing is what it seems, that appearances can be lethally deceiving, and that the ghosts of our past sins will haunt us forever. Based on a famous Korean folktale, this grim fairy tale is one of the most heart-breaking and unexpected movies about loss, guilt and grief ever made.

It’s love at first sight in the meadows of daisies, where her clumsiness caught his attention. He becomes her guardian angel from afar, shielding her and keeping her safe from harm.
Hye-young is in love with this mysterious stranger. She is constantly waiting for him to appear, but I really wonder how difficult could that be given the almost punctual daisy delivery. Cast

Kang Hye-jeong
Im Ha-ryong
Year Released: 2005
Director: Park Gwang-hyeon
Duration: 133 Minutes

Synopsis: Discover the magic of Dongmakgol! Filmmaker Park Kwang Hyeon makes a stunning directorial debut with Welcome To Dongmakgol, a touching tale of war and peace! During the Korean War, a platoon of North Korean soldiers are attacked with only Commander Lee (Jung Jae Young, from Someone Special), Private Jang (Im Ha Ryong, Arahan) and kid soldier Taek Ki (Ryoo Deok Hwan) surviving the carnage. After meeting a beautiful young girl named Yeo Il (Kang Hye Jung, from Old Boy), the soldiers follow her back to her village, an Eden-like place known as Dongmakgol.
In this town that time forgot, the locals carry on with their lives, completely oblivious to the fact that the Korean War has been raging on for the last couple of years. Due to their ignorance of the political situation, the villagers see nothing wrong with welcoming two South Korean soldiers, Lieutenant Pyo (Shin Ha Kyun, from Save the Green Planet) and a cowardly medic (Seo Jae Gyung, from Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring). Adding an international flavor to the mix is Captain Smith (Steve Taschler), an American pilot forced to make an emergency landing in the mythical Dongmakgol. After an intense confrontation that causes the destruction of the village's prized warehouse, the bitter rivals decide to put their differences aside for the time being, until they can help make up for the loss.

Although initially confused by the villagers attitudes toward life, the soldiers soon realize that they have found a paradise, a safe haven from the world of guns, bombs, and tanks. By interacting with these plain-spoken rural folks, the soldiers' ideas of patriotism and war suddenly get subverted, as they embrace the more peaceful outlook demonstrated by the inhabitants of Dongmakgol. But with the death and destruction of the outside world soon encroaching on the peaceful village of Dongmakgol, can these bitter enemies band together to protect the people that have given them a second chance at life? Based on the play by Jang Jin and featuring a wonderful score by Joe Hisaishi, Welcome To Dongmakgol is a heartwarming, deeply moving motion picture, full of unforgettable imagery and heartfelt sentiment! On his way home one night he encounters a beautiful but completely smashed young woman who causes a scene in the subway, calls him "honey", and then passes out. With the eyes of the other subway passengers upon him, he has little choice but to take responsibility for her. Thus begins his relationship with the at-times charming, at-times violent damsel who steals his heart.
